Check The Bar

Had a patient on the head and neck floor. He was a heavy smoker and drinker.

He had had a laryngectomy in years past so he had his tube in. He now had a feeding tube in due to further metastasis.

I go down to the room to give him a feeding.

It was like 30 minutes, nobody could find him. So I called his girlfriend, her number was in the chart.

She says to try the bar across the street.

So off I go and there he is, fully dressed at the bar.

Holding a cigarette to his trach tube and holding his feeding tube up that was attached to the feeding syringe...full of whiskey.

Ahh a day in the life of a nurse.
