Nursing Stories That’ll Make You Smirk:

Working on an Ob/Gyn floor that day, worked on Float team. Reading a patient's chart & didn't understand an abbreviation. "TTIPR"...I went to Resident who wrote it, he happened to be from Jamaica. " That means tubes tied in Puerto Rico "...had to tell him that is not an approved abbreviation in the USA !!

Hi, I am new to the group. My name is Sondra Potts. I have been a nurse for 22 years, first 15 in the Emergency Dept & last few years as the Hospice Manager. In nursing school my instructor must have thought I was timid. While checking off on male catheter insertion she said, “Just grab it like you mean it!” Oh, I did and the penis fell off the mannequin. 🤦‍♀️ I almost died of embarrassment!!

I was charge nurse on the Oncology Unit and asked a medical resident who graduated from a medical school in the Middle East to sign a death certificate on a patient. There’s a world of difference in how people interpret what is said and what you mean … I looked at him and said, “will you pronounce for me?” … he shoves his ID badge in my face and says “Malik”! I said, “no .. will you pronounce a patient for me?” … he says “certainly … what would you like for me to call him?” and I said “dead .. we’ll start with that “. I immediately knew that this was the first time he had ever had to that so I told him that all he had to do was listen for respirations, check for a pulse, etc … he knocks loudly on the door, yells out the patient’s name and I said, “he’s NOT going to answer you!” … I had to help him fill out the death certificate because he was sooo rattled. We become friends after that and we called each other “Malik”.

…and Nurse Your Soul with the Up Ad Lib Song of the Week: "Walking on Sunshine”

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, was released in 1983 but gained popularity in 1985, is an upbeat song with a bittersweet twist as it describes the end of a relationship.

The song's cheerful melody and optimistic lyrics bring a positive and uplifting energy to our day. We face challenging situations. The song's infectious positivity can serve as a reminder to maintain a sun-filled disposition and find joy in this amazing work.

A perfect anthem for all of us this week!
